Body Shaming - alias "BS"- usually lurks in the shadows.
BS sits on your shoulder and compares you to others. BS gets in your head and breaks down your confidence. BS loves to make you feel bad about how you look, what you know, and tells you that you aren't that great at anything. When you are given a sincere compliment, BS tells you they can't be right.
During the holidays and well into the New Year, watch out! BS is on the loose and searching for your soul and hard-earned dollars. Victims are primarily female. BS sneaked on an early-morning show this week, as the female hosts compared notes on their experiences with a popular method of fat loss. One host only talked about her experience, but I saw no personal before-and-after photos. Perhaps I missed them. The youngest of the female hosts, showed the actual before-and-after photos of her upper arm fat loss procedure. The after photo of her upper arm was flabbier than the before photo.
How can you tell that BS is near? For starters, BS will ALWAYS make you feel LESS THAN (fill in the blank). BS will try to convince you that the magic pill, shots and pricey procedures; that hyper-intensive injury-prone training program; or that number on the scale are the keys to your happiness.
If you are tired of the same old BS, then start asking what you want MORE OF? Do you want to get on the floor with your children or grandchildren? Do you want to take more walks or bike rides? Better Sleep? Do you want to learn to cook? To give a speech? More resilience? To travel? What does your body need to BE for every "MORE OF" that you named? This provides PURPOSE. Purpose defines your VISION. Vision defines your GOALS. Goals provide the PATH for you and your body's unique fitness needs. Your chosen unique path leads away from the same old BS!
Make that list of what you want MORE OF.
It takes a WOMAN OF STRENGTH to leave BS behind.
